New York Mets Rumors: Chris Christie Next GM? New Jersey Governor 'Would Love' Sandy Alderson's Job

Long-suffering fans of the New York Mets have had a lot to complain about whether it is with the team ownership's financial situation, the manager's day-to-day decisions or the general manager's inability to bring a winning ball club to Queens, and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has a solution to the ladder point of contention: inserting himself as GM.

Yankees SS Derek Jeter Said He Doesn't Want To Manage A Team

According to the Newark Star-Ledger, Christie appeared on WFAN Friday morning and said he would love to have the job Sandy Alderson currently holds as team GM, and to try and right the ship for a franchise that hasn't made the playoffs since 2006 and hasn't had a winning season since the final year at Shea Stadium in 2008.

The move to Citi Field hasn't been kind as the Wilpons navigate their way through financial issues, placing a strain on Alderson's ability to upgrade the team through free agency, but Christie is confident he's the man for the job.

Yankees To Retire Joe Torre's Number

"I would love to be general manager of the Mets," Christie told WFAN. "If Sandy would put his crap in boxes and get out of there now, I'd be happy to go there now."

Christie, a known Mets fan, visited the team during its spring training in Port St. Lucie, Fla. and told the station that he's been to four games thus far this season.

"I texted my son after they lost one of the games this week: 'It is impossible to watch,'" Christie said. "It is impossible to watch. Just when you care about them as much as I do, it's hard to watch sometimes."

The Mets have had some ugly seasons the last few years, and it hasn't changed this campaign as the team sits at four games under .500 with a 21-25 record and in fourth place in the National League East.

New York has lost six of its last eight games, but perhaps once he's done serving as governor, Christie will come aboard and right the ship to make the Mets Amazin' once again.
