Common therapy for dealing with the pain of a breakup is throwing yourself into your work.

Unfortunately, Caroline Wozniacki can't even do that.

Caroline Wozniacki to retire? Former No. 1 ready to start family

On the day Rory McIlroy announced a "mutual" decision with Wozniacki not only to call off their wedding but also to call off their relationship, Ekstra Bladet reported Wednesday that Wozniacki has been suffering from a left knee injury that has prevented her from being able to run or serve for several weeks.

Her father and coach Piotr, told Ekstra Bladet that Wozniacki will go to Roland Garros with plans of playing the first round of the French Open but won't make a final determination whether she can play until the last possible minute.

It's been a rough year on the court for Wozniacki, the No. 1 player in 2011. She has fallen to No. 14 as she has cycled through another coach, Thomas Hogstedt, in March.

Caroline Wozniacki looks to father to help her revive her tennis career

But as far as her "mutual" decision to break up with McIlroy, just two weeks ago, Wozniacki was talking about her desire to raise a family at the expense of continuing her tennis career.

"I want to be a relatively young mother, and I do not see it as being too far in the future," Wozniacki told Lime as Tennis World reported. "I have always even been like that I would even want to bring up my children. Therefore, I have no dream to make my mark. Instead, I enjoy economic freedom (that) my hard work has given me. It means that I can give my children the best start in life by being there 100 percent for them."

That could be the hardest part of the breakup for Wozniacki. She sounds as if she was prepared to begin the next chapter of her life. Now, not only will she be denied that opportunity, but for the time being, she can't even go back to her current chapter.

The question for Wozniacki becomes whether her knee or her heart will heal first.
