Today at 2:05 p.m. ET, the Seattle Mariners (22-22) and Texas Rangers (21-24) take the field at Globe Life Park in Arlington for the second and final contest of this quick two-game set. The game can be live streamed here. Seattle fans can hear all of the action on 710 ESPN while Texas fans can do the same on 103.3 ESPN.
Seattle continues out its five-game road trip that it is currently 2-2 on and looks for a two-game sweep while Texas hopes to split the series and close out their 1-3 homestand on a high note in the fifth and final game of it.
The Mariners send Chris Young (3-1, 3.22 ERA) to the mound while the Rangers counter with Nick Tepesch (0-0, 1.69 ERA).
Young returns to play in Arlington -- where he played from 2004-05 -- for the first time since 2006 on the heels of a loss to the Minnesota Twins where he gave up 10 hits in seven innings in a 5-1 defeat.
"I felt probably a little better than the way I pitched, but you're going to have nights like that over the course of a season," Young, who ranks third in the AL by limiting hitters to a .210 combined average, told MLB.com. "I just wasn't as sharp as I needed to be. The ball didn't have quite as much life as I needed to have, and I dug the guys too big a hole."
Tepesch was called up after Martin Perez was lost for the season due to Tommy John surgery. Tepesch threw 5 1/3 innings last Wednesday against the Houston Astros and struck out eight hitters while the team eventually went on to lose.
"I'm not really going to treat it any differently than how I treated the first game," Tepesch said about today's game per MLB.com "My mentality in the first game was to take it one start at a time, and I'll continue to do that."
Rangers first baseman Prince Fielder (neck) had his consecutive starting streak snapped and has missed the last four games. He may not be ready to return today.
Fielder is hitting .247 in his first year with Texas with three homers and 16 RBIs.
Seattle offseason acquisition and second baseman Robinson Cano ranks fourth in the American League in average (.322) and hits (56) while he's launched one homer and added 25 RBIs. First baseman Justin Smoak, a former Rangers draft pick, leads the Mariners in RBIs (27) and is tied for the team lead in homers (six).
Texas outfielder Shin-Soo Choo ranks second in the AL with a .424 on-base percentage and leads Rangers qualifiers with a .302 average while Alex Rios is tied for the league lead with four triples and leads Texas with 24 RBIs.
The Mariners and Rangers close out their brief two-game set when they clash this afternoon at Globe Life Park in Arlington.
