The NFL has decided on the location of Super Bowl LII between New Orleans, Minneapolis and Indianapolis and the winner is Minneapolis. This is as big an upset as there has been in recent memory as the state of Minnesota has upset New Orleans.
Minnapolis steals the game from New Orleans, who had never lost out on a Super Bowl bid in its 10 attempts before Tuesday. With this loss, New Orleans drops to 10-1 in potential bids that includes both the Superdome and Tulane Stadium. Minneapolis has been awarded the game as a reward for the Vikings building a new stadium and that was their biggest point when making their claim.
With the mixed reviews of the less than perfect weather in New York this past year, this decision is a bit of a head scratcher for a place that averages temperatures in the teens around February. The league has sent a message to all three potential host cities with this decision. The New Orleans blackout could have left a bad taste in the voters mouth and with Jim Irsay’s recent struggles, Indianapolis wouldn't have been the best place at the moment. With the controversey surrounding the other two host cities you have to ask if Minneapolis won the bid or did New Orleans and Indianapolis lose it.
And the message the NFL sent to Minneapolis? If you build a new stadium, we will come. Congradulations to Minnesota and we will see you in 2018
