The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are changing their stadium’s surface from grass to FieldTurf for 2014, but the burning question is: Where can I get some of that grass? If that is the first question you asked, you are in luck. Notre Dame is selling off sections of the grass as a souvenir to those who are interested.

If you happen to be a diehard Notre Dame football fan and have an extra $150 floating around, you could own a piece of history as the Fighting Irish make the transition to turf. According to the official Notre Dame website, each piece will be 5 feet by 2 feet and also has a laundry list of FAQ’s to go with the sale. Some of the best questions are as follows.

How do I know this is real Notre Dame Stadium grass?

Each roll of grass comes packaged with a Certificate of Authenticity attesting to it as genuine Notre Dame Stadium grass.

Will my section of turf be completely full of grass? Or could it contain just dirt on top?

Sections of grass selected for this sale will be taken from areas of the field with the least amount of wear and consist of as much fully covered grass as possible.

Can I return my section of grass if I don't like it?

Since this is a live product, all sales are final and returns cannot be accepted.

What if my grass dies after replanting?

We cannot be responsible for the replanting nor the conditions in which the grass has to grow after replanting.

Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick commented on the switch to FieldTurf and thought the time was right.

"Synthetic turf will assist our game preparation because our team will be able to play and practice on the same surface. We will also be able to utilize the Notre Dame Stadium field for practices on home football Fridays and other occasions, whereas that is currently unrealistic. Additionally, this change allows us to eliminate the risk to players posed by the asphalt perimeter that has to be maintained around our current field."

Get your grass while you can as you could own a piece of the Notre Dame legacy today.
