Following the resignation of Mike D'Antoni, the Los Angeles Lakers have taken a patient approach in finding a new head coach for the 2014-15 season and beyond. Their talks are expected to ramp up after the NBA draft lottery order is revealed on Tuesday night, and Byron Scott may be a backup plan for L.A.

Warriors 'Not Planning' On Trading Kevin Love

The Lakers and New York Knicks are both in search of new coaches after Steve Kerr spurned the Knicks and went to coach the Golden State Warriors, who were slighted by Stan Van Gundy, who took a job as general manager and president for the Detroit Pistons. Now, the Lakers will begin to delve into their options.

SI.com reports that the Lakers have continued to feel things out after D'Antoni opted to resign as Lakers coach due to the fact that the team didn't want to pick up his 2015-16 option coming into next season. D'Antoni faced questions and rumors about his job status all season long behind the Lakers bench, and he was unwilling to return to face those questions again unless his option was picked up.

Knicks Hoping That Thunder PG Derek Fisher Will Become Next Head Coach?

Now, with the lottery order set to be revealed, the Lakers will now weigh their options and begin to discuss who will guide the future of the franchise.

Los Angeles has taken a slow approach, not making any formal inquiries and has just sent out initial feelers to some possible candidates, while the team always has Scott, an ex-Lakers player and three-time NBA coach as a fallback option.

In his coaching career, Scott has posted a 416-521 regular season record and a 33-24 postseason mark with the New Jersey (Brooklyn) Nets, New Orleans Hornets (Pelicans) and Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Lakers are looking to revamp their team through free agency and the NBA Draft and are looking for a coach to bring the team back from a franchise-worst 27-55 season that saw them miss the playoffs for the first time since 2005.
