The Dodgers' 147 million dollar man, Zack Greinke, was scratched from his spring training start and underwent an MRI which provided relieving news to the team and its fans.
The Dodgers released a statement that read-"Zack Greinke was examined by Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles today. Dr. ElAttrache confirmed the diagnosis of inflammation in the back of the right elbow. An MRI performed in Arizona last week showed there was no structural damage to the ligaments or tendons of the elbow. He received an injection of PRP and anti-inflammatory medication. He will rest for 2-3 days and then return to a progressive throwing program."
Reports say that the injury should only take a few days of rest to clear up and Greinke does not appear to be in danger of missing the start of the season. Greinke informed the team of his nagging soreness, but the decision to have an MRI was made by the Dodgers. Manager Don Mattingly praised the pitcher's openness, saying "(Greinke) tells you the truth. When he tells us the truth and then it goes into when a guy signs a deal he signs it goes into ultra-caution at this point in spring training. So I think everybody is being cautious and he's being truthful and they want to make sure."
Greinke and left-hander Clayton Kershaw are expected to be among the top pitching duos in all of baseball, and will need to outduel the tandem of Matt Cain and Madison Bumgarner of the defending champion San Francisco Giants. Last season Greinke made 30 starts for the Milwaukee Brewers and Los Angeles Angels, posting a 15-5 record with a 3.48 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and 200 strikeouts for the year. This spring Greinke has pitched five innings and given up zero runs on six hits in two starts. He missed one start while battling the flu.
