The HBO hit series, Hard Knocks, is expected to choose their team in the next month or so and it looks like you can cross off the St. Louis Rams from the list of potential teams to get the call.

Head coach Jeff Fisher spoke to the Post-Dispatch Monday about the Rams being one of the eight teams that are eligible to be forced to do the show. Fisher hinted that the Rams would not be that one team.

“I think it’s unlikely,” Jeff Fisher said. “We are eligible, but I think it’s highly unlikely they’d ask us to do it. I think this organization has a right to go through training camp with some normalcy.”

The word that stands out from his statement is the normalcy that every team is entitled to. This could be a gentle nod to the fact that Michael Sam will be fighting for his NFL life all throughout training camp and the cameras would add a different tone to the show. Sam is, of course, the first openly gay NFL player who the Rams selected in the seventh round of the NFL draft earlier in May.

Sam had already signed on to the Oprah Winfrey Network to make a documentary about his life and trying to make the Rams, but that was delayed recently after speaking with St. Louis. HBO could push for the Rams considering the ratings storm the show would bring, but the NFL and Fisher could insist for the show to take a different route. Fisher is Co-Chair of the NFL competition committee so this could be a small favor from the NFL to retain a sense of normalcy in his training camp.
