Miami police have closed their investigation into rape allegations lodged against former NFL star Darren Sharper, concluding there was not enough evidence to charge the already jailed veteran player.

USA Today Sports reports the decision was not a major surprise as the victim there only filed a complaint against Sharper months after the alleged took place and after he already faced similar charges from several different women in four different states.

The 38-year-old Sharper remains jailed without bond in L.A. and also faces sex charges in Arizona. In addition, ongoing investigations against him remain open in Las Vegas and New Orleans. "It is a one-on-one allegation,” the source told USA Today.

“It is a delayed disclosure. The subject has made no admission. No physical evidence. Inconsistent statements made by the victim regarding knowledge of the people she was with night/morning of the incident as well as her description of the sex itself. No corroborating witnesses, despite detective's best efforts to locate the people the victim said were present the night/morning of this incident."

Meanwhile, Sharper is due back in court in L.A. on Friday, where his representatives are expected to to ask a judge to weigh evidence they contend point to his innocence. More specifically, in the Arizona case they contend a detective gave misleading testimony about DNA found on the alleged victim which contributed to

Sharper being denied bail. Still, investigators paint a portrait of consistently wayward behaviour on the part of Sharper where he would allegedly party with victims, spike their drinks and assault them while they slept.

Sharper has pleaded not guilty in the L.A. case and his attorneys have openly condemned both alleged victims had the DNA of other men on them at the time of their allegations.

In the New Orleans case, Sharper’s attorneys argue that one of the prosecution’s star witnesses himself is under investigation for previously drugging a woman and in Vegas they contend another witness openly boasted of having had “rough sex” with one of Sharper’s alleged victims shortly before her reported encounter with Sharper.
