Depending on who you read the Penn State Nittany Lions and Alabama Crimson Tide are the hottest names in 2014 college football recruiting, but now the two teams are talking about playing each other in the future. According to StateCollege.com, the idea of Penn State and Alabama playing the 2016 season opener at a neutral site had been thrown around, but has been tabled to another day.
New coach James Franklin and the Nittany Lions are off to a hot start in recruiting and are getting more ambitious in their scheduling that by aiming for Alabama, LSU and other SEC schools.
The spokesperson for the website said that Kent State would have been the team moved off the Nittany Lions schedule. The schedule has been set in stone for quite some time now, but the rumors show some promise for the future.
"There were discussions about playing the 2016 season opener against Alabama at a neutral site and moving Kent State to another year, but it didn't work out,”
Penn State will open up the 2014 season in Ireland against Central Florida and are still on NCAA sanctions. The 2016 season would be the first season the Nittany Lions are off the groundbreaking sanctions and to play Alabama would be a great accomplish for a team looking to make some noise in college football.
As of now Penn State is not schedule to play Alabama or LSU in the future, but in light of these rumors it seems likely that the teams will be schedule after the 2016 season at some point.
