In his latest blog entry, former WWE and TNA head writer Vince Russo discussed the recent MVP heel turn that happened in TNA Impact Wrestling. MVP turned heel by attacking TNA Champion Eric Young, and has now formed a heel faction with Kenny King and Bobby Lashley. MVP will also face Eric Young at the TNA Slammiversary PPV on June 15, 2014.
On the subject of MVP's heel turn, Russo stated:
"The circumstances/situation is now changed. Now, at this point, one would have to think that MVP may be starting to get a little "frustrated" with his job. I mean, there's been headache, after headache with Samoa Joe, then you throw Austin Aries into that picture--you get the idea. MVP has to be asking himself-"is this what I really signed up for? I'M A WRESTLER!" Now--add to that- "he's a wrestler" with a CHECKERED PAST!!! ..."
"MVP did EXACTLY what that "character" would have done based on his BACKGROUND and the PRESENT SITUATION that he's in. THERE WAS NO TURN!!! Did "Rock" turn when he joined "The Corporation"? Of course he didn't, Rock was wearing $500 shirts at the time, didn't care about anybody else but himself, thought HE was the star of the Nation of Domination, finally broke away, was given an opportunity by Vince McMahon which involved POWER and MONEY--so that "character" took it based on the "present situation". He didn't TURN--he stayed TRUE TO HIS CHARACTER!!!"

CB's Analysis: I vehemently DISGAREE with Russo's assessment that the MVP heel turn A) was a good idea; and B) wasn't a heel turn at all.
In the context of TNA Impact Wrestling only, MVP came in as the alternative investor to Dixie Carter's heel character. He was going to clean up TNA and make the company a level playing field once again following the championship run of Dixie's chosen one Magnus.
At LockDown, Bully Ray even sided with Team MVP because "the last thing wrestling needed was another Dixie Carter."
Yet hear we are, with another heel authority figure in pro wrestling who is abusing his power to strongarm himself into the TNA title picture. If you want to make a comparison to WWE that isn't ancient history, think about how MVP's heel persona is the de facto Triple H, while Eric Young plays the de facto Daniel Bryan.
These types of moves by TNA are not what the TNA fans want to see. Instead of WWE retreads and reworking WWE storylines, the Impact Wrestling fans that actually still tune into the product deserve better than this.
At Slammiversary, let's just hope that Eric Young retains the title, and then can move on to fresher opponents that are not MVP.
