Tiger Woods is still nursing his surgically repaired back, but he will not be the world's number one golfer when he returns. Adam Scott has officially jumped Tiger to become the new number one golfer in the most recent rankings.

When told about the ranking, Scott believes it’s bittersweet and would trade the ranking for win at a major tournament. An opinion that many would share in.

“I think it's a nice feather in the cap. I mean, if I was never world No. 1 when I'm this close, I'd be disappointed. But I'd also much rather win the U.S. Open and not be No. 1 at all this year. That's what it comes down to.”

Scott brings to light the humbling truth that the number one ranking means next to nothing if you do not come away with major championships. Tiger Woods is a prime example of this fact as he was the PGA Golfer of the Year in 2013 despite not registering a single major championship.

The hard truth is that only majors matter and Woods himself could be partially to blame for this belief due to his personal view that only majors matter in golf.

The question now is how long will Adam Scott hold onto his new ranking and is this the last time we will see Tiger Woods occupy the top ranking in the world? We will have to see which Tiger comes back from his back injury.
