Former Brooklyn Nets minority owner Jay Z is insisting the elevator brawl he engaged in with superstar wife Beyonce's younger sister earlier just days ago is a simple case of "families having problems."

"At the end of the day, we're no different," Jay and captured attacker Solange Knowles both agreed in a statement released on Thursday. "We love each other and above all we are family. But the most important thing is that our family has worked through it."

Video footage from a hotel elevator at the Standard Hotel shows Knowles attacking the Roc Nation Sports agency founder as they rode down together from a Met Gala in New York City on the night of May 5. The tapes shows Knowles landing at least three punches, as Beyonce looks on, and repeatedly trying to kick the hip hop legend before being restrained and pulled away.

"As a result of the public release of the elevator security footage, there has been a great deal of speculation about what triggered the unfortunate incident," the statement continues. "Jay and Solange each assume their share of responsibility for what has occurred. They both acknowledge their role in this private matter that has played out in the public. They both have apologized to each other and we have moved forward as a united family."

The statement also takes the added time to refute widespread rumors the 27-year-old Knowles may have been drunk at the time of the incident and had been behaving erratically for much of the evening.

Since launching Roc Nation over a year ago, Jay Z and the agency has already signed such high-profile athletes as Kevin Durant, Robinson Cano, Victor Cruz, C C Sabathia, Hakeem Nicks, Geno Smith and the WNBA's Skylar Diggins.
