48-year old boxing great Bernard Hopkins defeated Tavoris Cloud to claime the IBF light heavyweight championship on Saturday becoming the oldest boxer to hold a major title in the sport's history. Hopkins scored a unanimous decision in the 12-round match.
"It feels good. It feels real good," Hopkins told the Associated Press. "I'm going to Junior's (Restaurant and) I'm going to have cheesecake."
Hopkins beat his own previous record set by defeating Jean Pascal for the WBC light heavyweight title on May 21, 2011. When asked which fight meant more, Hopkins said "tonight was better. Because I'm older. (It's) more gratifying. Tonight was one of the bigger fights (in my career)."
After the fight, Hopkins laid a challenge at the feet of the175-pount and 168-pind divisions and looks to continue his success in the near future. However, Hopkins has been afamant that he will not fight past 50.
Fighting in his 19th title bout on Saturday, Hopkins improved to 53-6-2 for his career. The 30-year old Cloud fell to 19-1.
