In what seems like the longest on-going contract negotiation, former WCW and TNA icon Steve "Sting" Borden has yet to officially sign his WWE contract, though reports indicate that he is close to signing an official deal that would finally make him a part of the WWE after Vince McMahon has tried to ink him to a deal for years.
Title Match To Be Added To WWE Payback
According to Wrestlingheadlines.com, sources with knowledge of the contract negotiations between the two sides has noted that Sting has yet to officially sign the deal despite the fact that the deal has reportedly been nearly completed since last month's WrestleMania XXX pay-per-view on April 6.
The source said that the deal has been close and has come down to just "crossing the i's," but that Sting hasn't signed it yet as of a few days ago. While Sting has appeared on the WWE Network, most notably on the Ultimate Legend tribute to the late Ultimate Warrior and more network projects are scheduled for him, he hasn't signed his deal.
Daniel Bryan Undergoes Neck Surgery Thursday, Status For Return Up In The Air
The report indicates that Sting wasn't under any sort of contract when he appeared on the WWE Network to talk about The Warrior, but more projects are scheduled for him. The deal has been imminent since WrestleMania XXX, but hasn't been made official yet.
It was rumored that the WWE would do a match between Sting and The Undertaker at WrestleMania 31 since they had wanted the two legends to faceoff for years, but now that The Undertaker lost The Streak to Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania XXX, the appeal behind the match may not be there.
'Taker suffered a concussion during the match at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans and adding in the factors that he lost the match and that he was injured, his career is very much up in the air and he could very well choose to retire.
Sting's role has become a bit of a mystery as the WWE was hoping to bring him in for one more match at WrestleMania 31 in the Bay Area due to his California ties. It's possible the company comes up with another idea for him to have one final match or that The Undertaker opts to wrestle one last time in 2015.
There were rumors that Sting will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2015 as well.
It remains to be seen what will happen with Sting within the next year, but once he finally signs the contract, the WWE will begin to work towards plans with him.
