WWE World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan is set to undergo surgery on Thursday and after he comes out of it there will be a clearer picture of how long he'll be out and just how serious the injury actually is.

Shawn Michaels Discusses Facing Daniel Bryan For One Last Match

Bryan announced on Monday Night RAW that he had a neck injury that he had to get surgically repaired and that he expected to be out for one or two months. An update on the injury revealed that he had what was considered a minor broken neck that could be fixed by a simple surgery.

The creator of the "YES! Movement" didn't sustain the injury from just one particular incident, but rather from wear and tear he amassed over the years due to the method in which he performs in the ring. An updated status for Bryan revealed that he would likely be sidelined until around SummerSlam on Aug. 17, but following the surgery a definitive timetable is expected to be set.

Some people backstage believed that Bryan may have hurt his neck when he did a flying head-butt off of a forklift and pallet onto Kane in their championship match at Extreme Rules on May 4, however Bryan's injury was an accumulation of damage throughout his career.

Bryan's status as WWE World Heavyweight Champion will rely on how the surgery goes and whether or not the injury is more serious than originally thought. There was concern from some people within the company that the doctors would go into surgery and find something seriously wrong with Bryan, while the WWE has remained confident that he'll be good to go after the procedure.

It's been an up-and-down time in Bryan's life as he defeated Triple H and then Batista and Randy Orton to win the WWE Championship at WrestleMania XXX on April 6 then shortly after married WWE Diva Brie Bella, but then he had to deal with the death of his father and good friend and fan Connor "The Crusher" Michalek, who passed away after a battle with cancer and now has a neck injury.

The future of Bryan and the WWE Championship will be addressed on Monday's RAW, but a clearer picture of how serious the injury is should be known sometime Thursday.
