There were rumors circulating last year that Shawn Michaels would return for one more match to take on his protégé and current WWE World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan, and the "Heart Break Kid" addressed these rumors while dispelling the chances of him returning to the squared circle.

Possible Names For WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2015

Michaels appeared on Jim Ross' Ross Report podcast to address his in-ring future. Michaels hasn't competed in a match since he put his career on the line against The Undertaker's then undefeated WrestleMania streak and lost at WrestleMania XXVI in 2010. Michaels has honored the stipulation since the loss and hasn't wrestled since.

While reports circulated that Michaels would battle his former student in a match, possibly at a future WrestleMania, HBK said he hasn't had the itch to get back in the ring.

WWE To Make Announcement About World Title Monday Following Daniel Bryan's Injury

Michaels told Ross that at the time the rumors were really heating up, when he would attend a WWE show people would bring up the idea of Michaels doing something with Bryan but they were never the decision-makers or bookers in the WWE.

Michaels said that he is the one who would have to decide to come back to the ring for one more match and his future in the squared circle is in his hands and his hands alone. HBK said that he hasn't had the desire or given anyone the impression in the near five years that he's been retired that he would be returning to the ring.

The rumors really began to heat up when Michaels served as the guest referee for Bryan's match with Randy Orton for the WWE Championship at Hell in a Cell last October and screwed Bryan out of the title. Shawn said that even though the storyline made it seem like a match would happen between the two, it was never the plan.

Michaels then said that he came up with the idea for Bryan to get revenge via putting the Yes Lock on his former teacher and mentor on an episode of Monday Night RAW.

While many of his fans clamor for an in-ring return, Shawn Michaels is retired and by all accounts he isn't likely to wrestle again anytime soon.
