Cleveland Browns Offseason: Brian Hoyer the New Alex Smith, Johnny Manziel the 2014 Colin Kaepernick? [VIDEO]

After an offseason that could go down in franchise history, is it too farfetched to think that the Cleveland Browns could be setting themselves up to be the next San Francisco 49ers? One person does and it’s making a while lot of sense.

Eric Goldschein of Sports Grid wrote that the Browns find themselves in a situation that the 49ers found themselves in not too long ago. The 49ers had Alex Smith as their quarterback, but drafted a playmaker by the name of Colin Kaepernick in the second round.

Smith played very well and yet got himself benched and traded in favor of Kaepernick. The rest is history, but could history repeat itself with Brian Hoyer and Johnny Manziel? Goldstein points out that when the 49ers traded Smith, they turned him into draft picks that yielded more playmakers in the form of Tank Carradine, Carlos Hyde, Chris Borland and a 2015 4th-round pick.

So should the Browns be rooting for success when it comes to Brian Hoyer? At least one person thinks that should be the case in the Factory of Sadness.

“The Browns have been bad for a long, long time. But the current administration understands the need for depth at all positions, including quarterback. If you’re able to develop your backup AND starter to the point where they are both viable candidates to lead your team, you’re going to end up a winner sooner or later.

Cleveland fans should be rooting for Brian Hoyer. He may be standing in the way of Johnny Football’s rise at the moment, but his own success could reap massive rewards for the team — whether he’s wearing a Browns uniform in five years or not.”

The Browns are building a team that resembles the 49ers in multiple ways. The defense is flirting with greatness, the offensive line is formidable and you could make the debate they have more offesnive talent than San Francisco. Don't be surprised when the Browns make their move in the near future.
