Updating a earlier story from Sports World News, it looks like Stan Van Gundy will have a choice in where he will be coaching in 2014. Reports are now surfacing that Van Gundy has been offered a deal to be the next coach of the Detroit Pistons as well as their president of basketball operations.

The reports are mixed, but the common denominator is that Van Gundy and the Warriors are having a difference in opinion, and that Van Gundy is intrigued by having full control of a franchise. The Pistons would hire Otis Smith as their general manager per Van Gundy’s recommendation in the event he becomes the next coach. Smith was the general manager of the Magic when Van Gundy was the coach and the two are big fans of one another

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports reports that Van Gundy has not eliminated the Warriors as an option and that Golden State has offered to make the former Orlando Magic coach the highest paid coach in the NBA. The Warrior are traveling to Oklahoma City Tuesday to make one last attempt at landing Steve Kerr as their coach as well.

Van Gundy is expected to make a decision by the end of the week, but the Warriors are not waiting around for his decision. The big debate for Van Gundy is choosing between the location and roster of Golden State and the opportunity to have complete control in Detroit. Within the past 12 hours, Van Gundy has become the hottest name in the NBA coaching carousel.
