Steve Kerr has all but signed with the New York Knicks, but it looks like the Golden State Warriors might strike first with a new head coach. According to Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated, the Warriors and Stan Van Gundy have intensified their talks toward making Van Gundy the next coach.
Van Gundy hasn't coached since the 2011-2012 season with the Orlando Magic and since then has found a home on television, but it looks like that is all about to change. The Warriors fired Mark Jackson for his inability to win in the playoffs as well as some off the court issues with the front office and he hasn't found a new position, yet.
If Van Gundy signs with the Warriors, he will inherit a team that is loaded with talent from Stephen Curry and Andre Iguodala to Andrew Bogut and Klay Thompson. Van Gundy will have a ton of toys to work with in 2014-2015.
Other coach rumors and news from around the league include the Knicks being on the verge of making Steve Kerr their next coach and the Cavaliers firing coach Mike Brown in his second stint with the team.
Chicago Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau is another interesting name being thrown around for the vacant positions and the Lakers have already asked permission to speak to him. If the Lakers can get permission for Thibodeau, and it doesn't look like they will, they shouldn’t let him leave Los Angeles without a deal.
