The Cleveland Browns wheeled and dealed themselves into a prime position to alter the direction of their franchise and no pick was more important than Johnny Manziel. Browns owner Jimmy Haslem has already spoke to his new franchise player and his message was simple start acting “like a backup quarterback” to Brian Hoyer.

Browns Almost Drafted Watkins No. 4

The Browns drafted Manziel to be the future of the franchise, but it was assumed in typical fashion that Cleveland would get Manziel onto the field as soon as possible. That doesn’t seem to be the case as the Browns don’t want Johnny Football to run into the fire just yet.

Haslem also told Manziel that “this isn’t Hollywood” and that Manziel needs to stay the course of staying out of the media while he is groomed to be the franchise's next signal caller. Manziel is in for a fight for the right to play week one as many of his Browns teammates, including Hoyer himself, believe that the Browns starting quarterback in 2013 will not go quietly.

Michael Sam No. 10 Jersey Second Among Rookies

According to Peter King, the Browns outbid three other teams for the right to the No. 22 pick in the draft and included a third round pick at the last second to secure Manziel. The Vikings and two other unknown teams had also bid for the No. 22 pick, of the three Manziel was believed to be the target of two of them.

The Browns won the right to draft Manziel in the end, but when he sees the field for the first time is anyone’s guess. The Johnny Football experience is postponed until further notice.
