The biggest story of the third day of the NFL draft was Michael Sam finding a home in St. Louis with the Rams. Sam has faced his share of criticism ever since coming out as a gay man, but he has already been hailed a hero and a trailblazer by many. Sam trails only Johnny Manziel in total jersey sales among rookie since the weekend passed.

Cameron Weiss, Sam’s agent, spoke about the spike in Sam jerseys and thinks it’s an incredible sign.

"We think this is a sign of what we've been saying all along, that Michael's inclusion in the NFL is bringing fans into the game who weren't previously consumers of the NFL game,”

The top five in jersey sales among rookies is as follows via Outsports:

1. Johnny Manziel, Cleveland Browns
2. Michael Sam, St. Louis Rams
3. Jadeveon Clowney, Houston Texans
4. Teddy Bridgewater, Minnesota Vikings
5. Blake Bortles, Jacksonville Jaguars

The No. 10 Sam jerseys are selling at a "ridiculous" rate according to sources and the league expects another surge of jersey sales when Sam decides on a number that he will wear if he makes the Rams’ final roster. The public is speaking volumes about the acceptance of Sam via jersey sales, but there will always be people who spread hate in his direction. Look for another spark in sales of Sam jerseys once he decides on an actual number. Sam wore No. 52 in college with Missouri.
