It’s been well covered that Tiger Woods’ will miss many tournaments with his back injury, but how much will the Players Championship suffer due to his absence? The Masters suffered from the lack of star power in it’s ranks and registered one of the most disappointing television ratings in recent memory, so how well could the Players Championship really expect to preform.

With Tiger out of the Players Championship how will this tournament fair when its more popular counterpart couldn't break the mold? No. 4 golfer in the world Adam Scott commented on Tiger’s influence and what it means to the tournament.

"There's no doubt he plays a huge impact on the feel of a tournament. He is obviously the No. 1 player in the world and one of sport's biggest people in the world. So the attention he draws is massive, from the gallery to the media. So it's obvious when he's not around."

"There are so many guys winning events now that you've got to look past just No. 1. He won five times last year, and that's a lot, so obviously in a way it's one contender that you don't have to deal with. But the list is long here this week, and other guys are going to play great."

Tiger Woods remains the No. 1 golfer in the world despite missing so much time with his injury, but many golfers can overtake him at the Players Championship if they put on a great showing. Adam Scott, Henrik Stenson, Bubba Watson and Matt Kuchar all have the opportunity to overtake Tiger at The Players Championship, but well see who actually takes advantage of the competition.

Martin Kaymer currently leads the pack at Ponte Vedra Beach with a score of 9-under par after round one.
