Leading up to his UFC 172 clash with Glover Teixeira, Jon "Bones" Jones, the top consensus fighter pound-for-pound in mixed martial arts spent the weeks prior dealing with barbs from fellow light heavyweight Phil Davis.

Davis, a normally quiet and reserved fighter, came out of his shell to mercilessly taunt Jones about how "scared" he was to face him. He's [Jones is] the champ, and he needs to learn that I soon will be the champ," Davis was quoted saying.

Phil Davis calls Jones "shortbread cookie"

"So he should probably just either just give it to me, which would be the easiest thing, or he could fight me and he could give it to me that way. Probably the easier way would be to just give it up, just walk over here and say, 'You know what? Honestly, I'm scared. I'm just going to give you the belt.'"

Davis also referred to Jones as a "shortbread cookie" that would crumble in his hands. He generated a hefty amount of buzz with his personality shift, and possibly put himself in the running for an eventual title shot. Unfortunately, he was beaten soundly on the undercard of UFC 172 by Anthony Johnson, knocking him out of the running and drawing return fire from Jones on Twitter.

Gustafsson calls himself "bad matchup" for Jones

"Hey @PhilMrWonderful you're more than welcome to borrow my Teddy," Jones gleefully tweeted. Jones, who dominated Glover in the fight for a controversy-free victory, addressed Davis' comments after the fight as well.

"Phil was talking all that greasiness and now he's somewhere pouting," said Jones. Davis is probably facing a tough road back to a chance at the belt, and the overwhelming favorite to be Jones' next opponent is Alexander Gustafsson, who barely lost to Jones at UFC 165. White also has designs on holding the fight in Sweden, where Jones would face a hostile environment.
