Detroit Lions Rumors [VIDEO]: Ndamukong Suh To Be Traded? GM Martin Mayhew Denies Speculation

Despite speculation that the Detroit Lions were planning on trading defensive end Ndamukong Suh, Lions general manager Martin Mayhew vehemently denied any implications that the team had plans to send Suh out of town.

ESPN reports that Mayhew was tight-lipped when it pertained to the Lions plans for the upcoming NFL Draft, but he stressed that trading Suh wasn't in their plans and the only offer he had was a low-ball offer from an anonymous team.

"We're not looking to trade him. We have no plans to trade him," Mayhew told ESPN. "I haven't had any conversations with anybody about trading him except in January, I did get a call from a team that had an interest. Offered me a box of old tube socks and I said no thank you."

Mayhew said there haven't been any trade talks and that he's hopeful that he can lock-up Suh long term soon.

"Other than that, there's been no conversations," the GM said via ESPN. "There's been no gauging the interest level. There's been none of that that's happened or has been authorized by me so I don't know where that came from. That's not on the table."

The speculation stems from Suh having $22.4 million due to him next season in the final year of his rookie contract and the Lions not yet extending him. Suh, who changed agents in the offseason, also declined to show up to optional workouts that began last month that mostly every other Lions player is attending.

Still, Mayhew is confident that Detroit will extend a huge piece of its defense.

"We're in negotiations," Mayhew said per ESPN. "I don't think it really benefits to try and gauge where you are. Are you close? Are you far? All that. I've done this for a while now and you can say you're close, but you're not close until everybody signs it."

Mayhew reportedly wasn't surprised that Suh didn't show up to the optional workout and believes that he will join the team in mid-May when he is expected to. Mayhew is optimistic the sides will work something out soon.

"You can say you're not going to get it done until the time passes for you to get it done. We're in ongoing negotiations," he said, according to ESPN.

Suh, 27, has played in 62 games since the Lions drafted him with the No. 2 overall pick in 2010, and has picked up 185 career tackles and 27.5 sacks. In 16 games in 2013, Suh recorded 36 tackles and 5.5 sacks.
