Chris Jericho recently conducted an interview and spoke about the possibilities of CM Punk returning to the WWE among other topics as Punk walked out on the WWE in January and it doesn't seem as though he's coming back, though he has popped up elsewhere including at a number of Chicago Blackhawks games.
There were rumors that Punk may return and WWE Hall of Famer "Superstar" Billy Graham also said that he thought SummerSlam would be a perfect place for Punk to return, even though his contract expires in July. Jericho said that he isn't sure what Punk's plans are and noted that it's not a good sign that the "Best in the World" hasn't returned yet.
"I don't know, man, who knows, right? That's something that only he can answer for sure," Jericho said in an interview with Digital Spy. "To me, if he hasn't come back already, then... I left the WWE for two-and-a-half years in 2005. The only difference was I left when my contract was up, but I disappeared too, because I just was over it. I couldn't take it anymore, I wasn't interested in being there, I was getting miserable, so I know how he feels."
WWE Superstar Drew McIntyre discusses CM Punk and Sting
Jericho played off of his own experiences to empathize with what Punk is going through.
"I had no intention of coming back, and after two-and-a-half years I watched Shawn Michaels vs. John Cena at WrestleMania 23 and that inspired me to want to come back, but it took two-and-a-half years to get there," Jericho told the affiliate. "So my answer is, 'I don't know', but I just know how I was when I did the same thing. It took a long time for me to be able to come back, and I was."
Jericho also discussed Sting coming to WWE in some capacity over the next year.
"Personally I don't really have any opinions either way. If he comes to the WWE, good for him, it's great," he said. "I saw him a couple of times in TNA and you know pretty much what he can do at this point in time. He is a legend and to have him come to the WWE for the first time would be great, but after a week or two what's he going to do there?"
Punk left the WWE in January prior to the Monday Night RAW episode on the night after the Royal Rumble due to his frustration with the company and burn out from travel. He has since gotten engaged to WWE Diva A.J. Lee who has taken time off.
Punk hasn't said much on leaving the company, but he has appeared on AMC's Talking Dead television show and at a few Blackhawks games.
According to Wrestlingheadlines.com, Punk participated in the Shoot the Puck contest during a Chicago Blackhawks and Minnesota Wild playoff game at the United Center in Chicago this weekend. Punk, who missed the shots, was announced as a WWE Superstar and had his "Cult of Personality" theme playing.
Punk also spoke with a local baseball team at Holy Trinity High School in Chicago and head coach Joe Glorioso spoke with HallofVeryGood.com about the experience.
"He was at the same hotel as the team and saw us in the parking lot," Glorioso told the site. "Next thing you know, he's asking who won the game for us and how we're doing. He's a nice guy...very, very much a good role model. He told the kids to stay in school and do the right thing. He doesn't look injured. He looks good."
Punk has kept plenty busy, but it remains to be seen if he'll ever return to the squared circle.
