Here is the latest TNA news on why Eric Young became TNA Champion on the same night he was named No. 1 contender on Impact Wrestling a few weeks back, a running joke backstage with ex-WWE wrestlers in TNA, the marketing deal with United Talent Agency, and more.

Why Did Eric Young Become TNA Champion so Quickly on Impact?

According to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the reason Eric Young won both the No. 1 Contender 10-man gauntlet match and the TNA Championship on the same night with no buildup or promotion was because Impact was semi-live that night and the company wanted to run a hotshot angle.

In addition to that, The Observer reports, "The reason they didn't have him just be the surprise winner of the gauntlet and challenge for the title at Sacrifice was fear that Young as the challenger at the PPV wouldn't do well."

CB's Analysis: When EY won the title on Impact, it definitely was a surprise feel-good moment. However, it also seemed like TNA was cramming the entire Daniel Bryan underdog storyline that was promoted for months leading to WrestleMania 30 into one night on free TV. I actually think the Eric Young storyline would have benefitted from a little bit of buildup and promotion that could have concluded at TNA Sacrifice with his title victory.

The other aspect of this story from The Observer relates to the cross-promotion TNA might be able to receive with Eric Young being TNA Champion at the same time that his new Animal Planet series "No Limits" premieres on May 30th. As for the concept of the new show, Eric Young will be "doing adrenaline filled adventures all over the world" and episodes were filmed in New York, Hawaii, Death Valley and Puerto Rico, among other locations.

TNA's Marketing Deal with UTA and Running Joke Backstage

Meanwhile, the big reason TNA signed a marketing deal with United Talent Agency is to help increase the company's brand recognition and better market their talent. The Observer also reports that UTA is "also in charge of getting the company licenses" while expanding both live events and TNA's social media presence.

One running joke backstage is apparently former WWE personnel being asked by fans why they don't wrestle anymore when they are still active in TNA.

CB's Analysis: Guys like Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan mentioned in previous interviews that when they were in TNA, people would ask them what they were doing these days. It just goes to show that TNA could use the help on the marketing front and the deal with UTA is a good start.
