The LA Clippers will have a chief executive officer (CEO) to be appointed by the league office who will supervise the day-to-day operations of the franchise after the NBA banished owner Donald Sterling.

With Sterling banned for life, the Clippers have been getting orders from team president Andy Roeser. However, the latter drew the ire of many employees after he released an official statement that gave Sterling the benefit of the remarks.

According to ESPN sources, the CEO will replace Roeser as the highest ranking official in the organization and will be the one to decide if the team president will remain with the organization.

League spokesman Mike Bass confirmed the plan to assign a CEO, telling ESPN: "The best way to ensure the stability of the team during this difficult situation is to move quickly and install a CEO to oversee the Clippers organization. The process of identifying that individual is underway."

Clippers coach Doc Rivers, who also serves as the vice president of basketball operations, will remain active in his role alongside vice president of basketball operations Gary Sacks.

The decision of the league to assign a CEO was welcomed by Sterling's wife Shelly, who co-owns the franchise. In a statement she said: " "I spoke with Commissioner Adam Silver this week to tell him that I fully supported his recent swift and decisive action. We also agreed at that time that, as a next step, both the league and the team should work together to find some fresh, accomplished executive leadership for the Clippers. I welcome his active involvement in the search for a person of the utmost character, proven excellence and a commitment to promoting equality and inclusiveness."
