Despite a disappointing first-round exit courtesy of the Portland Trail Blazers, the Houston Rockets will not be replacing its head coach Kevin McHale.

As the Houston Chronicle is reporting, the Rockets management believes that McHale, a Hall of Famer player with the Boston Celtics, needs more time to guide the young team. The Rockets had the youngest line up in the postseason with an average age of 25.7 years.

This season was the final guaranteed year of McHale's contract, but sources close to the Houston Chronicle say that the top brass of the Rockets have a lot of faith in him. It is also reported that the management wants McHale to continue guiding the relatively new team which battled injuries throughout the season. The last year of McHale's contract is a team option but it is almost guaranteed that the Rockets will exercise that option to retain the Celtics great.

The Rockets have made the playoffs the past two years and ended the season with a 54-28 record.

The Rockets seemed to be headed to a Game 7 against the Blazers, leading 98-96, with just .9 seconds left until sophomore guard Damian Lillard sank a miraculous three pointer off two screens to lead the Blazers to an improbable 99-98 victory in Game 6. Afterwards, guard Jeremy Lin of the Rockets told the Houston Chronicle about the heartbreaking loss: "

"It's tough. He got a clear look, but I have watched the play a million times. I can go back and say, 'we should have done this' or 'we should have known this' but I don't know."
