Vince Young, the former No. 3 overall pick of the Tennessee Titans in 2006, last played in 2011 for the Philadelphia Eagles, where he was backing up Michael Vick. He plans to work out at the University of Texas pro day, according to Sports Illustrated, in an effort to restart his career. Young is currently working toward getting his degree.
Young was one of the most decorated players in college football history at Texas before being drafted by the Titans. He was the first player in NCAA history to throw for 3,000 yards and rush for 1,000 in the same season, rushed and threw for over 100 yards five times, which is a Texas record, and came in second behind Reggie Bush in the 2005 Heisman Trophy voting. He later avenged his Heisman defeat by taking down Bush and his mighty Trojans in the national championship, leading a game-winning drive and taking home the MVP.
In Young's first two seasons with the Titans he led them to winning records , but he injured his knee in Week 1 of 2008, and head coach Jeff Fisher decided to stick with backup Kerry Collins even after Young was healthy. In 2009, Collins was named the starter but eventually was benched in favor of Young after an 0-6 start. Young went on to win eight of his ten starts. In 2010, Young's rocky relationship with Fisher came to a head after he injured his thumb during a game and was not allowed to re-enter despite his claims that he could play. In January of 2011 Titans owner Bud Adams said Young would not return to the Titans. He was picked up by the Eagles and served as a backup, going 1-2 in three starts. He signed a one year deal with the Bills in May 2012 but was released in August.
Attitude concerns have kept teams at bay in terms of giving Young a chance and he did not play in 2012.
