Colin Kaepernick either understood the audience to which he was speaking or he learned a valuable situation from an incident last month that threatened his reputation.

Jim Harbaugh calls Colin Kaepernick investigation a "witch hunt"

The Modesto Bee reported that Kaepernick spoke publicly about an incident last month at a Miami hotel and apartment complex in which he was named in a "suspicious incident" involving a woman ending up in a Miami hospital after spending the previous evening with Kaepernick and two other players.

Kaepernick spoke Friday in front of a group of about 900 people at the 21st annual Turlock (Calif.) Mayor's Prayer Breakfast, a Christian-based event.

"It's been put out that I did something wrong," he said, as reported by the Bee. "Even though it's a bad circumstance, a bad situation, I feel like ultimately I've been blessed because it's changed my way of thinking. It's made me stronger. It's made me look at things differently.

"It's given me a more solid foundation about what's right and what's wrong," he said, "and what I should be doing and what I shouldn't be doing ... and not putting myself in bad situations."

Kaepernick, 49ers wide receiver Quinton Patton and Seahawks wideout Ricardo Lockette are part of an investigation in an incident that involved a 25-year-old woman, that reportedly had been previously linked romantically to Kaepernick.

After a night of partying, the three players and the woman went to Lockette's apartment where the woman eventually went into the bedroom with Kaepernick and got undressed. She said she did not have sex with Kaepernick. He left, but she passed out and awoke in a hospital the next morning without remembering what took place after Kaepernick's exit.

Lockette called 911 after the woman refused to leave his apartment, which led to her being taken to the hospital because of her condition.

The players have not been charged with crimes, while the woman - reportedly a former girlfriend of Kaepernick's - did not allege any criminal activity in a police incident report.

Kaepernick, who spoke to Rev. Ron Youngdale, talked about several aspects of his faith and won over the crowd in attendance.

According to the Bee, Eric and Isabel Davis brought their teen son Quian to listen to Kaepernick speak.

"I'm raising my son as a Christian and for him to compete in athletics and to put God first in front of everything," Eric said. "We think he (Kaepernick) is a real role model."

Turlock Mayor John Lazar also gave Kaepernick the ceremonial key to the city.

All of which was a great learning experience for the 49ers quarterback, depending on his sincerity. But the display was an excellent start.
