Former NFL star and current ESPN football analyst Keyshawn Johnson has been cleared of domestic abuse charges filed against him late last month.

According to ESPN, the L.A. County District Attorney has decided not to pursue charges against the former New York Jets star, terming officer's decision to arrest him at the scene "an overreaction"

Officers took Johnson into custody late last month after he and the mother of his child wrestled over the cell phone he took from her during an argument, causing her to slightly injure her hand.

TMZ adds the argument was triggered over the woman continuing to read text messages from her phone while she and Johnson were having a conversation. When police arrived, both the woman and Johnson told officers they didn't want to press charges but Johnson was still arrested.

The 41-year-old Johnson played 11 NFL seasons, averaging 80 receptions and eight touchdowns a year. The No. 1 pick in the 1996 draft, Johnson was a three-time Pro Bowler who won a Super Bowl with Tampa Bay in 2002.

Johnson's best season came with the Jets in 1999 when he hauled in 89 catches for 1,170 yards and eight touchdowns. While with the Jets, Johnson also infamously penned the novel Give Me The Damn Ball, where he chronicled his rookie season experiences and took several shots at then teammate and receiving partner Wayne Chrebet.
