Tonight at 8:00 p.m. the NBA's likely MVP, Kevin Durant, will try to keep his No. 2 seed Oklahoma City Thunder alive in their Round 1 series with the Memphis Grizzlies. The story of this series has been Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook's inability to impose their will on a Grizzlies defense that has frustrated them since the opening tip of Game 1. This has been arguably the best series of possibly the greatest first round in NBA Playoffs history, with all four games getting to overtime.
"I'm getting tired of it," Grizzlies guard Tony Allen said of the extra periods. "Hopefully, we do the things we need to do to try to avoid that, and that's taking care of the ball down the stretch."
Thunder head coach Scott Brooks, whose job could be in jeopardy should OKC bow out in the opening round, professed unshaken faith in his stars. "The great ones just continue to focus on the next game," Brooks said when referencing Durant.
"He's a great one. He's one of the greatest players in the world. He has to be able to continue to step up and take those shots, and he will. I have the utmost respect for his game."
He is the No. 1 option for OKC tonight, and if he doesn't get going they likely won't make it past tonight. During the regular season he averaged an absurd 32 points per game while hitting 50 percent of his shots-in Round 1 he's down to 28 points on 40 percent.
Brooks also noted that a few bounces here and there, and this could be OKC with the chance to close. "We have a great opportunity to go in there and give ourselves a chance to win," Brooks said. "We've done that in every game in this series."
