Los Angeles Lakers head coach Mike D’Antoni has resigned from his post effective immediately after the Lakers refused to pick up his 2015 team option. Now that D’Antoni is out as coach, the Lakers are in the running for new head coach once again. Who should the Lakers be targeting and what are their chances of landing the job?

Byron Scott: Scott has ties to the Lakers from his days with the Lakers in the 1980’s and according to ESPN, it’s no secret he wants the job. Scott is one of few coaches on this list that has any NBA head coaching experience with his multiple stops in the league. Scott would be a logical decision, but it is very uninspiring in a time where the Lakers feel like they need to make a splash.
Odds: 15 to 1

Kevin Ollie: According to Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski the Lakers could take the route the Boston Celtics took and sign the hot up-and-comer from the college game.

"Possible there won't be a superstar coach available to Lakers, but there's a hometown kid on fast-track to become one: UConn's Kevin Ollie."

Ollie could ride his national championship momentum all the way to the NBA and be the next coach of the Lakers.
Odds: 15 to 1

Ettore Messina: If Kobe Bryant has anything to say about who will be the team's next coach, he could lobby for a former assistant under Mike Brown in Messina. Wojnarowski tweeted that he believes Messina could be in play due to his former experience with the team and bond with Bryant.

"A candidate Lakers management and Kobe Bryant share a fondness for: Euro legend Ettore Messina,"

"He impressed as assistant under Mike Brown.”

Odds: 10 to 1

John Calipari: The dark horse candidate who was rumored to be a “done deal” to the Lakers weeks ago, Calipari could finally make his return to the NBA. Calipari could be ready to jump ship back into the NBA and the Lakers would have all the appeal that he craves in his basketball. I think the Lakers will take a long look at Calipari and eventual tag him as the teams next coach.
Odds: 5 to 1
