The hits keep coming for Liga MX outfit Chivas Guadalajara.
After failing to qualifying for the Liguilla for the third consecutive season, the club's future remains in doubt. It isn't, however, just poor results that is of concern and will need to be rectified moving forward.
The search for a new manager has officially become priority No. 1.
ESPN's Tom Marshall has reported that manager Ricardo La Volpe has been fired. In an attempt at an upheaval, Chivas hired the well-traveled manager in mid-season. In his introductory press conference, La Volpe was cautiously optimistic, asking for long-term support (h/t to Fox Sports). "I have to assume the risks," La Volpe said
"One is created with the ability to assume this responsibility and give joy back to the fans. I think it goes without saying that, for my part, I am 100 percent committed," he added.
"I have a responsibility to the club. I'm asking support to implement my plans for the future and for a job where I can lay out my complete ideas."
La Volpe will not be granted that time, but it won't be due to poor results. Inappropriate behavior seems to have done the 62-year-old in—inappropriate behavior directed at a female member of the club's staff.
With a summer transfer window just a few short months away—one Chivas desperately need to improve—the search for a new identity begins. The early candidates to succeed La Volpe are said to be Jose Manuel de la Torre, Victor Manuel Vucetich and Paco Palencia.
Regardless of who is appointed, the club brass must ensure it's the right man to return stability to Guadalajara.
