The Cleveland Browns are one of the teams most likely to select a quarterback in next week's NFL Draft, but that hasn't stopped the Browns from evaluating free agent quarterback talent. The Browns will host free agent signal callers Vince Young and Tyler Thigpen at the teams three-day minicamp starting Tuesday.
Young has been out of football for a year now and has been a long way off from the player he was suppose to be when the Tennessee Titans drafted him No. 3 overall in the 2006 draft. The Browns are running on empty at quarterback after cutting both Brandon Weeden and Jason Campbell and deciding to go into the draft with just Brian Hoyer. Browns general manager Ray Farmer spoke highly of Young in light of the scheduled meeting.
Eagles Trading Up For Johnny Manziel?
"He's had success in the National Football League. We wanted to take the opportunity to get the chance to see where he was. We'd been kind of following him through the offseason. He'd been doing some things that kind of caught our eye and made us kind of take note.”
Rumors had been that an NFL team was excited about the idea of drafting Fresno State’s Derek Carr and then signing Carr’s older brother and former No. 1 overall pick David Carr to be his mentorand backup. If the Browns were the team in question, it seems that they are cooling on the idea of having the Carr brothers together or are cooling on taking Derek Carr at all.
Texans Want Bridgewater In The Second Round
If the Browns sign either Young or Thigpen, it throws the whole perception of what the Browns are doing at quarterback into limbo. The likelihood of the Carr brothers uniting in the NFL after the draft takes a major hit if the Browns sign a quarterback after their three-day minicamp.
