If you are counting the days until Tiger Woods returns to golf, cross the U.S. Open off your calendar and circle the British Open. According to Woods’ agent Mark Steinberg, Tiger is targeting the British as the tournament in which he will return from back surgery.

First reported by the Golf Channel, they believe that Woods will be bypassing the U.S. Open due to his back injury to focus on the British Open at Royal Liverpool.

"While Tiger Woods has not yet set a timetable for his return to competition, Golf Channel sources indicate that fans could see the world No. 1 back in action in July."

"Sources tell Golf Channel that Woods is targeting a return at the Open Championship, which will be held July 17-20 at Royal Liverpool.”

If nothing else is confirmed by the report it is that Tiger is out of June’s U.S. Open in which he was miraculously the betting favorite. Woods hasn't won a major tournament since the 2008 U.S. Open and hasn't won the British Open since 2006. Woods has struggled for what seems like an eternity and will attempt to use the British Open as a spring board to prepare for The Open Championship in late July.
