The Denver Broncos placed their franchise tag on All-Pro left tackle Ryan Clady on Friday. The move ensures Clady a salary of $9.828 million in 2013.
Clady made $3.5 million last season protecting Peyton Manning's blind side during his first season as the Broncos' quarterback. In over 1,100 snaps, Clady only allowed one defender to sack Manning last season.
Denver hopes to agree to a long-term deal with Clady before training camp. Last season, Clady turned down a five-year, $50 million offer which included $28 million in guarantees.
Clady has started every game since joining the Broncos five years ago. However, he will miss offseason workouts while recovering from surgery on his right shoulder, an injury that kept the lineman out of this year's pro bowl.
The Broncos went 13-3, winning the AFC West and holding the best regular season record in the AFC. Denver ended the season with an overtime playoff loss at home to the eventual super bowl champion, Baltimore Ravens.
