Sammy Sosa didn't so much as receive an invitation to take part in the Chicago Cubs 100-year anniversary festivities earlier this week, and the former slugger told ESPN the time has clearly come for a sit down with top franchise execs.

Sosa remains on the outs with management, largely based on the steroid abuse allegations now marring the 12-year stretch he spent with the team during which he smashed nearly half of the 609 career homers he's credited with. Sosa is also reported to have been feuding with teammates by the end of his Cubs run, even leaving the stadium in the middle of a game during his final season with the team in 2004.

Sammy Sosa skin appearance draws concern

"I think there is something that has to be resolved" he told ESPN. "If there is something to clarify, we will sit down and clear it up. Time has given me the maturity to reflect upon many things, including knowing that one side doesn't have to be right all the time."

Team spokesperson Julian Green later told ESPN "there are some things Sammy needs to look at and consider prior to having an engagement with the team." The man known as Slammin Sammy later countered "it has been 10 years since I played my last game with the Cubs. That's a lot of time to not have had a conversation about this."

In all, Sosa played 18 big-league seasons, hitting at least 60-plus homers in three seasons, all with the Cubs.
