The NFL Draft’s most polarizing figure has joined the name game of who is most likely to select him and where. Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel says he was told by the Buccaneers he is on their “short list” for players they would select at No. 7 overall.

In the never ending cycle of smokescreens and truth, the Buccaneers have been pretty active in the media. The Bucs were rumored to be enamored with Central Florida’s Blake Bortles and would not let him slip past them, but it seems Tampa Bay is also interested in Manziel.

Believe what you want and take every report with a grain of salt, but coach Lovie Smith was very clear when he said the team would take a long look at quarterback and would likely walk away with at least one of the prospects. Manziel and Bortles are on opposite sides of the spectrum when it comes to skill sets so I would have to believe that one of the reports is false.

The Buccaneers are one of the teams that can sway the draft in their favor considering their options at No. 7. They have needs at both offensive tackles and wide receiver, but they have the luxury of being able to select whoever they wish with their stellar free agency.

Manziel could be just reporting what he was told, but that doesn’t make it true. The Buccaneers will likely walk away from this draft with a quarterback, but which quarterback and where he is selected remains to be seen.
