John Cena was slated to appear on Tuesday night's WWE SmackDown tapings for the episode set to air this Friday from Hershey, Pa. but he didn't appear on the show.
SmackDown spoilers for this Friday from Hershey, Pa.
Wrestlingheadlines.com reports that Cena was advertised locally in Pennsylvania on Tuesday as appearing on SmackDown in place of WWE World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan, who was previously advertised to be there but is with his family following the death of his father.
Bryan was written out of television for Friday's show after Kane attacked him on Monday Night RAW and he was carted off on a stretcher. The WWE gave a storyline injury for Bryan to take him away from Tuesday night's tapings, but Cena was supposed to fill in as a top draw for the fans in attendance.
War Games match between Evolution and The Shield coming this summer?
There have been no reasons given as to why Cena failed to appear on the show to build up to his match with Bray Wyatt in a steel cage at Extreme Rules 2014 live from the Izod Center in East, Rutherford N.J. on Sunday, May 4.
Wyatt instead came out and cut a promo on Cena within a steel cage while Cena didn't appear on the show to respond to him. Wyatt was also involved in the dark segment closing out the show as the Wyatt Family brawled with The Shield after the cameras stopped rolling Tuesday night in Hershey as The Wyatts had the upper-hand before The Shield reversed things and chased them to the back to close things out.
The Shield were featured in the main event on SmackDown, facing six other men in a handicap match.
Bryan had missed last week's tapings due to his honeymoon with his new wife Brie Bella, and he was informed of his father's passing when he returned from the trip, but still decided he wanted to appear on Monday's episode of RAW where the WWE set up his match with Kane for Extreme Rules.
It was reported that the WWE may keep Bryan out of the ring until Extreme Rules to sell the injuries, but he still may make a non-wrestling appearance on this Monday's RAW after he gets back from his father's funeral.
There's no update on why Cena wasn't at SmackDown, but he and Bryan will both likely be at RAW on Monday.
