Today at 11:05 a.m. ET, the Boston Red Sox (9-10) will take on the Baltimore Orioles (8-10) in the final meeting of their four-game set. The early start is due to Boston's traditional Patriot's Day start time, and this one will have extra significance thanks to the tragic bombing in 2013 that killed three people and wounded nearly 300. Watch the game on MLB Network or live stream it here free. Orioles fans can listen to the action on 1090 WBAL, while Red Sox fans can tune in to the radio broadcast on 93.7 WEEI. Boston will send Clay Buchholz (0-1, 5.51 ERA) to the mound against Wei-Yin Chen (2-1, 4.76 ERA).
Boston's favorite baseball David Ortiz is assuredly focused on the task at hand today, but he's also planning his postgame activities already. With the special circumstances surrounding his plans, it's a given no one will give him grief.
"After the game, we used to stick around and go down Boylston (Street)," Ortiz said. "I'm going to pick out a spot where I can see things, or whatever, because I love to go down there." Big Papi became Boston's unofficial athletic ambassador after the terror attack last year, when he addressed the Fenway faithful with an emotional speech. "This is our f***ing city!" Ortiz exclaimed. "Nobody is going to dictate our freedom."
Ortiz will try to give Buchholz some run support, which has been lacking in his first two starts. In return, the hurler must improve on his shaky first few appearances. Buchholz is trying to regain his 2013 form, which saw him post a sparking 1.76 ERA with 96 strikeouts to just 36 walks. His campaign was cut short because of injury however, and he finished the year with just 108.1 innings under his belt.
