Reigning World Series MVP David Ortiz indicated his desire to visit the Boston Marathon finish line after the Boston Red Sox-Baltimore Orioles game on Monday.
It has been more than a year since April 15, 2013 when three people were killed and more than 260 others injured after two bombs went off near the finish line of the Boston Marathon, which is less than a mile away from Fenway Park where the Red Sox play.
''After the game, we used to stick around and go down Boylston (Street),'' Ortiz on Friday told the Associated Press via Yahoo! Sports. ''I'm going to pick out a spot where I can see things, or whatever, because I love to go down there.''
Ortiz's teammate Jonny Gomes and Jarrod Saltalamaccia, who is now with the Miami Marlins, were responsible for the motto 'Boston Strong' which became the battle cry of the team and the city as it recovered from the grisly attacks. The Red Sox put the insignia on the back of a gray road jersey with the city's area code, 617.
The team eventually romped off with its third World Series title in a decade powered by Ortiz's record-breaking performance. On Friday, Ortiz shared his thoughts on what it means to visit the finish line on Patriots' Day. He said: ''I think Monday is going to be a day that everybody's going to focus as a citizen, focusing on the history of what happened before. I think it's going to be very emotional and there's going to be happiness around, too, more than sadness, because of the way this city bounced back.
