Tonight at 7:08 p.m. ET the Detroit Tigers (7-5) will host the Los Angeles Angels (7-8) in the first of a three game set at Comerica Park that pits the two top players in baseball, Miguel Cabrera and Mike Trout against one another. Live stream the game by clicking this link. Tigers fans can hear the game on 97.1 The Ticket, while Angels fans can find the radio broadcast on KLAA 830. The Angels will throw struggling ace Jered Weaver (0-2, 5.59 ERA) on the mound against Drew Smyly (0-0, 0.00 ERA) who is making his first start of the season.
The debate about whether Trout or Cabrera truly deserved the AL MVP award the last two seasons (Cabrera won both) will likely never be settled, but Trout's the one off to the hotter start in 2014. His steals are down, but Trout's hitting .323 with five home runs and 11 RBIs while Cabrera is hitting just .250 with a single home run and six RBIs.
Those two will be the focus, but Tigers second baseman Ian Kinsler just helped Detroit avoid a three-game losing streak and is off to a good start himself. He's hitting .328 with two dingers, eight RBIs and three steals and tied a career-high with four RBIs in a win over Cleveland.
"I would like to win some more games, but right now we're playing OK, and just waiting to erupt a little bit and run off a bunch of wins in a row," said Kinsler.
He could be a problem for Weaver, who has shown trouble with his trademark control. He's surrendered four runs or more in each of his first three starts, and walked three-plus batters twice. He has yet to reach the seventh inning in any of those outings. He has also given up five home runs (four in one start) after surrendering 17 all last season.
