Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is one of the more polarizing figures in boxing-his father is one of the legends of the sport, and JCC Jr.'s fame is largely attributed to the respect his father universally commands. In the ring and out though, the son hasn't always impressed.

He underwhelmed in both of his fights against Brian Vera, a scrappy but ultimately limited fighter he should've rolled through and lost 11 of 12 rounds to Sergio Martinez in a middleweight title fight. He's been linked to a super fight with rising middleweight star Genndady Golovkin, but talks reportedly hit a snag when Chavez began battling HBO over parts of his contract extension.

Golovkin wants Cotto-Martinez winner?

Boxingscene.com reported Chavez was unhappy with his contractual minimum guarantee for each fight, and that paused negotiations with "GGG," arguably the most electrifying fighter in the sport.

Boxingscene.com also reported that Top Rank came to Chavez with a new offer, and that Golovkin talks have resumed. "We have to look at everything, but things are looking good," Chavez said. "Nothing is going to get closed until next week, because right now everyone is on vacation."

That's good news for Golovkin, who is certainly one of boxing's most exciting names but is in need of a name opponent to cement himself as a star. He fought four times last year, winning all four by knockout, and has the highest KO percentage in boxing. His top wins though are over quality opponents like Curtis Stevens and Matthew Macklin, who have little name recognition beyond the hardcore fan base.

Golovkin cancelled April tune-up fight, JCC Jr. bout close

World Boxing News reported that the two sides are eyeing July 19 for the big fight. "(Promoters) Tom Loeffler and Bob Arum should have the minor details that are left to settle done by the beginning of next week, so hopefully we will be treated to a historical event with Chavez Jr at the fabulous Forum of Los Angeles in the summer."
