Central Florida quarterback Blake Bortles is considered the top prospect at his position in his year’s draft. Experts around the league are having a hard time predicting where Bortles will end up, but it is believed it will be within the top 10 selections. However, recent rumors seem to have placed a ceiling on how far he could fall come May 8th.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are rumored to have their entire first round plan laid out and ready to go. The Bucs have started to operate under the assumption that they will be unable to move up into the top five, but would jump at the chance to select Bortles if he slips to No. 7. The Bucs ideally want to move back in the draft and find the best fits for their bigger needs such as wide receiver and offensive tackle.
Jets, Chris Johnson Implosion In The Making?
The draft is loaded with receivers and tackles, and it doesn't look like the Bucs want to stay in the No. 7 spot unless Bortles is available. It is believed that Bortles will be selected within the top five picks whether it be naturally or if another team trades up to claim him. Take everything with a grain of salt at this point in the draft process as teams are often leaking fake rumors of their draft plans. Every team wants the edge when it comes to draft season and we should expect no different from the Bucs.
Head coach Lovie Smith has said he would weigh his options at quarterback in the draft, but Josh McCown will be the teams starter in 2014. I don’t expect Bortles to be available at No. 7 and the Buccaneers will likely select the highest remaining tackle or a wide receiver like Mike Evans.
