As people remembered and mourned the one year anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombings, another incident occurred Tuesday that fortunately left no one hurt.
A man dressed in all black shouting “Boston Strong” was seen walking down Boyslton street before he allegedly left two backpacks near the location of the original bombing a year ago. The suspect was subdued soon after be police and was identified as Kayvon Edson.

In what can only be described as a scene out of The Hurt Locker, a bomb squad was called in to evaluate the suspicious backpacks at the finish line. The bomb squad preformed a controlled detonation, which does not necessarily mean that there was explosives in the package, but is used as a precaution.

According to reports by CBS Boston, the one backpack contained a rice cooker that was filled with confetti and the other was filled with photo equipment. The suspect is now in custody and has been charged with possession of a hoax device, disorderly conduct, and disturbing the peace.

In a weekend that was suppose to be about honoring the city that rose up from tragedy and remembering their perseverance, we now have this situation that will likely raise the alert levels in Boston as the marathon approaches. I applaud the Boston Police and bomb squad for their professional and cautious actions to quickly dispose of any threat in the area.
