The NFL Draft has a pattern of ups and downs with players and their “stock”, but no position is put under the microscope more than quarterback. As with every year, the top quarterbacks are starting to shuffle and Derek Carr has made his move into the top 10 of some teams.
According to multiple sources three teams selecting in the top 10 have put Fresno State’s Derek Carr as the draft's No. 2 quarterback behind Central Florida’s Blake Bortles. Here at Sports World News we placed Carr at the fifth pick to the Oakland Raiders, but in light of this news the Cleveland Browns and the Minnesota Vikings are the rumored three teams.
Of the top 10, six teams have been rumored to or have been mocked a quarterback within the first four rounds. Other than Carr getting a boost into the top 10, both Johnny Manziel and Teddy Bridgewater are rumored to be cooling on scouts and expected to still be available in the teens and early 20’s.
Teams Looking to Pair Carr Brothers After Draft
The changing in the guard within the last month before the draft is similar to the 2013 draft where the consensus was that Geno Smith would be the draft's first quarterback off the board within the top 20 until the Bills selected E.J. Manuel at No. 15. Manuel was the only quarterback taken in the first round in 2013 and similar stock hits are affecting Manziel and Bridgewater.
All four players are expected to go in the first round and a fifth quarterback could join the fray as the Patriots are always looking to trade back out if the first round at No. 29. Carr could make the jump in next month’s draft just as easily as Manziel and Bridgewater could slip. The Texans, Browns, Raiders, Jaguars, Vikings are all in the market for a quarterback, but a sleeper to look out for are the Arizona Cardinals looking for the heir to Carson Palmer.
