Trevor Bauer is expected to be called up from Triple-A Columbus to start in Wednesday's doubleheader against the Padres. The 23-year-old struck out nine batters over six innings of one-run ball in his season debut in Triple-A last week. He consistently threw his fastball between 92-95 mph, showing that the increased velocity that he seemed to rediscover during Spring Training wasn't a fluke.

Need saves? Fantasy baseball bullpen report

Bauer is the No. 3 prospect in the Indians’ organization according to Baseball America. The UCLA product has shown flashes of greatness throughout his career, but hasn’t been able to put it all together at the Major-League level.

This is probably a situation where Bauer will be sent back down once the doubleheader is over, but you never know. He’s been working on a new delivery and has the tools to make a significant impact in fantasy leagues if he forces his way into the Indians rotation with a dominant spot start.

If Bauer can pitch well enough to stick around, his tools should translate into a fantasy asset. He averaged 9.9 K/9 over 51 minor-league starts entering this season. Owners in deep AL-only leagues should go ahead and add him now. Mixed-league owners should take a wait-and-see approach with the former first-round pick.
