As the NBA season winds down, the Cleveland Cavaliers know they're out of the playoff picture while the New York Knicks' situation appears bleak. Phil Jackson may have been installed as a new front office fixture, but the biggest storyline will be the chase to keep Carmelo Anthony.
Playoff berth could help Knicks get Kevin Love
That's why the news coming out of Cleveland involving point guard Kyrie Irving should intrigue the Zen Master and his charges. Irving's clearly frustrated by all the losing in Cleveland, and a recent feud with Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon makes it appear as if Irving's on the verge of a meltdown.
When asked about his thoughts on the perceived tension between Irving and shooting guard Dion Waiters, Gordon was candid. I talked about it with Dion. He's my neighbor in my building so we hang out all the time," [Gordon] said. "I'm aware of the rift in the locker room. That's just alpha males and supreme athletes trying to share the spotlight."
Irving didn't appreciate the remarks, and lashed out at the Browns pass-catcher. "Guys like Josh Gordon need to stay in his sport and mind his own business," Irving said.
"Does he still play for the Browns? I'll continue to root for the Browns, but in terms of this stuff here, what goes on in this locker room, he needs to stay out of it."
This comes after another small freak-out by Kyrie in which he blasted the media for constantly speculating on his opinions of the Cavaliers organization and assuming he wants out in 2015. Irving tweeted out his frustrations earlier this week.
"Sick to my stomach with all these rumors and accusations. Can I play without media guessing at my life and putting B.S out for headlines." While the Cavs have struggled, Irving's play has pretty much remained the same, and he even bumped his assists up to a career-high 6.3 per game.

The Knicks figure to be heavy players in the 2015 free agent market, but 'Melo is opting out this summer. A move to acquire Irving could convince him to stay put, and the Knicks have enticing pieces like Tim Hardaway Jr. and Iman Shumpert to dangle, as well as a massive expiring contract belonging to Amar'e Stoudemire.
